June 11/21 DPS& SA Weekly at a Glance

Hello,

Welcome to our beautiful sunny and warm weather. We hope that this communication finds you and your families well.
Thank you for your guidance, perseverance, and resilience in support of our students and your children.
Let's hope the last few weeks bring forth many bright days outdoors in keeping with our public health measures and Covid guidelines.
Stay well and enjoy!

Davisville Gift Cards:
Thank you to all the families who responded regarding the new gift cards. Families who received gift cards earlier this year will receive another 2 cards from the Toronto Foundation for Student Success through an additional grant they received. Families who requested during this process will receive gift cards in both June and July. These gift cards are from Davisville’s snack budget for this year. We are happy to be able to get some of these funds back into the hands of our families.

Davisville & Spectrum Time Capsule at New Site: We are preparing the time capsule for the new school. We are still looking for any items from the past that you think might be cool to add. It will be installed in the fall. If you have any items for consideration, please contact shona.farrelly@tdsb.on.ca

Davisville School Council Oreos in June: To celebrate the end of this school year, Davisville Parent Council felt

2021 Summer Well-Being Guide: has a variety of culturally-responsive resources and accessible activities for students and families. Information on where and how to reach out for help is also included. In addition, on page 3 of the guide, there are details and contact information to register for various Summer Groups offered by TDSB Professional Support Services Staff for students and caregivers.  2021 Summer Well-Being Guide

WHAT ARE TDSB SECONDARY ALTERNATIVE SCHOOLS?:

Alternative schools are safe, highly engaged, smaller school environments. They use non-traditional hands-on approaches to learning the required Ontario Ministry of Education Curriculum. Each school has a distinct identity and focus, such as democratic education, holistic learning, physical art, mindful living, entrepreneurship, social justice, community outreach and more. These schools are ideal for students seeking an alternative to mainstream education and who want to take an active role in their own learning. EdVance is a program specifically for 18-20-year-olds completing their high school diploma.

Parents and students interested in learning more about secondary alternative schools (grades 9-12, grades 10-12, grades 11-12) are encouraged to look at the following resources and contact the lead educators of the alternative school identified in the resources:

To support families in the process of selecting a secondary school, particularly learning about the programming available at the TDSB Alternative schools, we will be hosting the following events for students/families in the 2021-2022 school year:

  • Grade 8 Virtual Secondary Alternative Schools Information Fairs for Grade 8 students/families in November

  • Virtual Elementary Alternative Schools Information Fair in November

  • Virtual Secondary Alternative Schools Information Fair in January and June
