June 25 DPS&SA Weekly at a Glance

Hello,

Thank you to all our Davisville and Spectrum families and students for working with us through this most unusual year. Your support to staff and your children was never more important than this year. Students, staff, and families were asked to pivot and change learning modalities several times this year. It was hard on everyone. Our being at a different location also added some challenges for everyone. You’ve heard “it takes a village to raise a child” before, but this year we really saw it in action. You are truly an amazing group of parents in each school. We feel so fortunate to be a part of these amazing communities.

We are finally moving home!!! The new school building is complete, and the yard is being finalized as we speak. Nothing would make us happier than to be able to host all our families for a visit before September. Currently, it isn’t possible. We will be watching with great optimism and enthusiasm as things open again for large crowds. We will do everything we can to host an Open House/Tour for all our families. However, if this isn’t possible, Davisville’s first Council meeting is on September 16th and Curriculum Night is September 23rd. Spectrum’s first Council meeting is on October 7th and Curriculum Night is on September 22nd.

Please note that the student Provincial Report Cards were emailed electronically on Friday, June 25 to the email address we have on file. Students in Grade 4-8 also received their Report Card electronically to their student email address. The password format must be MM/DD/YYYY, including forward slashes. Example: 05/03/2004 for the birthdate May 3, 2004. Virtual School student Provincial Report Cards will be forthcoming.

We have 3 amazing teachers retiring this year. Mme Mantello and Nancy Rawlinson from Davisville and Vince DePasquale from Spectrum. Mme Mantello will be remembered for all the amazing events she organized for our community; Jump Rope for Heart, Carnival, Speech Contests, Author, and Illustrator visits along with the amazing Core French program she ran. Ms. Rawlinson will be remembered for her amazing projects she did with her students each year, including her 100 Books projects and celebrations, her stone soup and bread making and hands on approach to learning. She also ran many clubs including sock monkey puppets, origami club, speed stacking club, glovtapus, knitting and feel good chickens. She was also one of the classes ( a few years ago) who hosted the King of Tanzania, the Queen of Jordan, the Prime Minister and First Lady, along with Melinda Gates. Vince will be remembered for the amazing trips to Quebec, his technical skills as he introduced 3D printing, film making, coding and the yearbook production. We will miss them all.

We were so excited to see our Spectrum graduates as they came to pick up the items they left at school and their diplomas. It was so lovely to see the students and parents one last time. We wish you all the best. Grade 5 English stream and Grade 6 French Immersion stream families are invited to come on Tuesday, June 29 between 10:30-12:30 to pick up items left at school and leaving certificates. A separate email with the sign-up information has been shared with the respective families.

As Monday is our last day at 529 Vaughan Road, all other student items have been packed in individual bags and placed into a box for this year’s teacher. You can access these items in September from this year’s teachers. Devices can be returned to any school (except 529 Vaughan Road) until July 2nd.

We have been in communication with ClearImages for our 2020-2021 class composites and they will be distributed via School Messenger on Tuesday, June 29, 2021. Your child will also receive their 2020-2021 composite next September. If you are interested in individual student photos, please outreach to info@clearimages.ca and they will be able to assist you.

We will be sharing a Virtual Welcome to Kindergarten for our incoming JKs and French Immersion SKs. This will be shared with the respective families on Monday, June 28.

Junior Kindergarten Registration – new dates

Please note that French Immersion will have a double cohort next year, meaning we will intake students in both Junior and Senior Kindergarten into French Immersion in 2021/2022. The following year 2022/2023, entry into French Immersion will only be in Junior Kindergarten. The dates are also very early so watch for registration information in October as registration will take place in November. Families coming into the English stream will also now be able to register starting in November.

Have a wonderful summer. We hope you can enjoy time with family and friends. See you in September!
