Last Blog Week Ending June 30

Wishing all students, staff, parents/caregivers a fabulous summer. We will see you back in September.

Stay strong.

Aquatic Centre Update:

Many parents have been asking about construction of the new Aquatic Centre on the west side of our school.  Construction is scheduled to begin in the ‘Fall of 2022’.  Prior to the project beginning, parents will be invited to a community safety meeting to explain how the city will manage the project and help maintain a safe environment for our students and community.  Stay tuned for more details in the fall!

New Playground Update:

Our playscape is scheduled to begin installation in the middle of September. It should take a few weeks to complete the installation.  We will send out details about exact dates in September.

Virtual School 2021-2022 Devices and Virtual Learning Devices 2022-2023:

This is a reminder to please return the TDSB loaned student devices that were being used for VS this year to your homeschool. IT Services will be administratively locking unreturned devices that were loaned to support remote learning from March 2020 to June 2022. This will occur on June 30, 2022. The locking process will cause the devices to be non-functional to anyone.

As well, students participating in virtual learning next school year, will be provided with a device (Chromebook) by IT Services. The devices will be shipped to the student's 2021-2022 home school the week of August 29 for the student to pick up prior to the first day of school. Devices should have been requested at the time of registration.

Davisville Play Day:

It was a fantastic day had by all. We thank the Play Day Committee for providing this wonderful opportunity for our students from JK-Grade 6.

Toronto Public Library Summer Programs:  Summer Reading Club and Summer Wonder (elementary):

TD Summer Reading Club

Elementary schools will have received information about the Summer Reading Club to send home with students in June.  The Summer Reading Club is Canada’s biggest, bilingual summer reading program for kids of all ages, interests, and abilities. This free Club is offered at all of our Toronto Public Library branches. The Club celebrates Canadian authors, illustrators and stories, and inspires kids to explore the fun of reading their way, with the goal of building a lifelong love of reading.  Kids can visit a Toronto Public Library branch to pick up their free reading kit to track their reading.    The TD Summer Reading Club kids’ website will go live on June 13 at tdsummerreadingclub.ca

Many schools find it helpful to have the teacher-librarian or classroom teacher discuss this program and other public library offerings during the month of June to support summer reading and to connect students and families with local library branches and online reading options over the summer.

Toronto Public Library Summer Wonder

From June 13 to September 3, kids can participate in arts and STEM based programs in both English and French at Toronto Public Library branches and online. Programs and workshops are designed to keep kids ages 6-12 years engaged in reading and learning year round. Families can find all of these program listings online at tpl.ca/summerwonder

Davisville Retirements To Announce:

Biljana Svilaric our wonderful Office Administrator will be retiring. She has spent many wonderful years at the TDSB and we have been very fortunate to have her amongst our community. We thank her for being a part of our team and families. We wish you the best! Enjoy the adventures in health!

As well, we bid a happy retirement to Fay Chang. Fay has left an indelible impression on the many students that she has educated. We are fortunate to have had Fay be a part of our Davisville fabric.  May your heart continue to be touched just like the hearts and minds that you touch! A big thank you!

Message from Mrs. Chang:

The students really enjoyed signing books out of the library this year. They really missed it during the lockdown. However, we now need to collect all the books so that they are available for the students next year.

The library is now closed for circulation of books. Please return any outstanding books to the library as soon as possible. Overdue notices for missing books will be sent home the week of June 20 - 24.

After 30 years of teaching, it is now time for me to take a step back.I will be retiring at the end of this school year. I have truly enjoyed my teaching career and the time that I have spent at Davisville P.S.!

I would like to thank all the parents and guardians for their support over the past four years.

All the best,

Fay Chang
